It was a goal good enough to win any football match, and yet Alexis Sanchez's volley for Arsenal against Manchester City on Saturday was ultimately ruled out by Martin Demichelis.
As a result, the Gunners' £35million summer signing did not have the last laugh, but his performance suggested the Chilean international is approaching his best form at just the right time.
Alexis was everywhere against City, touching the ball 81 times, constantly making a nuisance of himself and winning two interceptions in the process. As well as his goal, the former Barcelona man provided one key pass and had two additional goal-scoring attempts, one of which was on target.

A player that costs that much money is always expected to do such things, and yet few do it as dynmically as Alexis.
When you consider it was his first match playing with Danny Welbeck, and that four of the Arsenal players to feature on Saturday were new to the club this summer, it is impressive that Alexis is already putting in displays like the one against Manuel Pellegrini's men.
The fact that he will get even better as the season progresses should excite Arsenal fans and concern their opponents; because the 25-year-old is on the road to greatness. He may already be knocking on the door.
