Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand has been singing praise of Manchester United’s summer signing Angel di Maria.
The Argentina international winger joined the Red Devils from Spanish giants Real Madrid last month for a club-record £59.7 million.
The 26-year-old is one of the best players in the world and was key in Madrid’s Champions League triumph, while creating more goals than anyone else in La Liga last season.
Di Maria is also versatile, having the ability to play as a winger and an attacking midfielder – a trait that former United defender Ferdinand knows very well having played against him in the Champions League.
‘I’ve played against Di Maria before and have always liked him’, the 35-year-old centre-back told The Sun. ‘He’s a really good runner with the ball – quick and direct - and one of the hardest players to play against.
‘He collects it, turns around with the ball and is facing you and running at you. He tried to beat you for pace running at the back four.
‘He can turn defence into attack really quickly. He carries the ball over long distance and was probably Real Madrid’s most consistent player last season’.
The former England international himself suggests that the Argentine can be very tricky so can he read the 26-year-old’s game?
We will find out on Sunday.
