Danny Welbeck may have struggled for playing time at Manchester United, but he was given a start for Arsenal against Manchester City on Saturday.
It was also the England international striker’s debut for the Gunners, having joined them from United on transfer deadline day for a reported transfer fee of £16 million.
The Red Devils manager, Louis van Gaal, recently claimed that Welbeck was sold by the Manchester outfit because he could not score enough goals, and the striker was certainly looking to prove the Dutchman wrong on Saturday.
Welbeck almost did so against City at the Emirates Stadium, and as early as the 12th minute, too. Collecting the ball with time on his side, the 23-year-old brilliantly chipped his England teammate Joe Hart, but it came back off the post.
Welbeck was shocked that his attempt did not go in, and so were the Arsenal fans packed inside the Emirates, as shown in the following photo:

Welbeck had chances on other occasions and had a good debut overall, offering Arsenal pace through the middle and looking like he could gel if he is regularly played as the centre-forward.
The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw. Sergio Aguero gave City the lead on 28 minutes, but Arsenal hit back through Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez in the second half. However, the Premier League champions managed to pick up a point, thanks to an 83rd-minute goal from Martin Demichelis.
