Liverpool’s recent signing Lazar Markovic has revealed that Anfield already feels like home, and that can only be a good thing for those Reds fans hoping that both he and his fellow young stars ultimately become a triumphant side of the future.
Markovic signed for Liverpool from Benfica in the summer, his reputation already burgeoning following a fine spell in the Primeira Liga. And now the 20-year-old looks set to be unleashed on the English top flight with some tipping him to become every bit as devastating as his new Reds teammate Raheem Sterling.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the player said, “I’ve settled extremely well. I’ve been here two months now and everybody’s been very helpful and I already feel at home.”
And it is that comment that should most please and excite the Anfield faithful.
After all, Liverpool have signed a number of young players in recent times, with the likes of Emre Can and Javier Manquillo brought in either permanently or on loan. And if Markovic already feels at home after so little time on Merseyside, the hope is that feeling is shared by his new club-mates.
Brendan Rodgers is building a side that can compete not just now but well into the future, with the potential for these young players to evolve into one of the most effective club sides in Europe.
The sense of being at home is one Rodgers will want to maintain among all his current and blossoming stars; because if he can, he may be able to keep them all for the next decade and beyond, and given how good the likes of Markovic already are, that can only be a good thing.
