Irvine served under Martinez at Goodison Park last season as he oversaw the youth team, but left Merseyside to replace Pepe Mel as Baggies boss in June. Today, much will be placed on the pace of Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye, as West Brom search for their first win - particularly after their shambolic display at Swansea City in their last game.
Meanwhile, Everton are also without a win after draws with Leicester City and Arsenal, and the 6-3 defeat to Chelsea may have been entertaining to the neutral, but Martinez will have been disappointed with the poor defending on show against Jose Mourinho's side.
John Stones comes in for Sylvain Distin in defence as Everton look to tighten up in the back four, but in-form duo Steven Naismith and Aiden McGeady will be looking to continue their respective purple patches against the Baggies, who have heavily disappointed so far this term.
Irvine may want to get one over his friend Martinez, but given Everton's attacking options and decent displays against the bigger sides, the Toffees should be made favourites.
