Arsenal host Manchester City in the opening Premier League game of the weekend at lunchtime, and Gunners captain Mikel Arteta has been speaking about the club’s summer signing Alexis Sanchez.
In a sneak preview of a feature included in today’s Arsenal programme, the club’s official website has published a snippet of the interview.
The Chilean international has netted twice in his last two matches for the club, and that is something Arteta is particularly pleased about.
“It was good to see Alexis on target once again against Leicester,” the Spaniard said. “He’s working really hard and is very enthusiastic.
“He always wants to do more in training and he wants to stay longer after the session has finished.
“He’s the type of player that wants to attack very, very quickly, and he’s trying really hard to impress everyone.”
He has certainly been doing that, and while he may not have torn Premier League defences to shreds from the outset as some had been predicting, it was always going to take him time to find his feet, and his scoring-form.
With Danny Welbeck set to make his Arsenal debut this afternoon, it will be interesting to see if he and Alexis can hit it off immediately. But even if it takes time, theirs could ultimately be one of the most effective attacking duos in the top flight.
