Arsenal drew 2-2 with Premier League champions Manchester City this evening - with promising performances from several of their players.
Alexis Sanchez again looked superb. He scored their second goal with a delightful volleyed finish from inside the box. He was also a livewire throughout the game, giving City all sorts of problems throughout the tie.
Jack Wilshere was their man of the match. He scored the opener and put in a tremendous performance for the club as they ended up unlucky to not come away with all three points.
But once again it was not a positive performance from their club record signing Mesut Ozil. Arsenal fans have been concerned over the £42.4 million pound man's performances for the past few months. And despite being a regular for Germany in their World Cup winning campaign of the summer he has not found his form yet for The Gunners.
Today was no different. He looked uncomfortable once again on the wings and was sloppy in possession. He slowed up play on several occasions - much to the annoyance of Aaron Ramsey, Wilshere and Sanchez.
But it is not just his sloppiness going forward but his inability, or indeed refusal to track back and defend.
He came into the game carrying an injury, but so did Ramsey, and comparing the two's work-rate would have been unfair on the German - even if the Welshman did not have his best game either.
He appears lacklustre and occasionally disinterested - which of course is not true - but the fans are beginning to get frustrated with his continued poor performances.
Arsenal fans will be hoping this particular poor performance was the result of a hangover after his injury problem, but it is fair to say that right now, Arsenal are not getting their money's worth.
Here is some of the reaction on Twitter to yet another worrying display from Ozil...
Ozil just does not look happy, why would he when he is the best in his position in the world and he is played out wide— DialSquare52 (@DialSquare52) September 13, 2014
I personally would play Ozil in the middle. But then again I haven't gone a season unbeaten and won 2 doubles/5 FA Cups— Passernal (@Arsenal1886x) September 13, 2014
Always thought £42m for Ozil was too much. Too lazy for the PL.— Eathen.. (@hunter_troll) September 13, 2014
The lazy Ozil gives an assist— XIDIG (@Xidig_AFC) September 13, 2014
Huge Ozil fan, but he's been woeful today, really really bad...— DB (@Gooner1884) September 13, 2014
Rejecting Cesc was an awful awful decision, wanted him at the time but Ozil has done nothing to warrant the decision to not sign him— Philip (@zwz121) September 13, 2014
I don't get it ozil wasn't terrible today I thought some of the stuff he done was decent he just isn't fully match fit yet— - (@jou_campbell) September 13, 2014
Ozil has been terrible today— Miltonius Maximus I (@Tiego_Milito) September 13, 2014
Ozil, I insist is not poor. Wenger should just play him in his position and let us all be happy. Frustrating to see him struggle on the wing— Irvin Jalang'o (@irvinjalango) September 13, 2014
