Derby County fans have reacted to the news that Chris Martin has signed a new four-year deal with the club.

Derby County fans were handed some great news yesterday when stories filtered through that Chris Martin had signed a new four-year contract with the club.

The Rams confirmed the news through their website and Twitter account, as they tie down the long term future of arguably their most important player.

Derby boss Steve McClaren can now build his attack around the 25-year-old who very nearly fired the side into the Premier League last season.

Martin scored 25 goals as Derby made it to the play-off final, narrowly missing out at the hands of QPR and he’s already looking to make up for last season with three league goals already in the current campaign.

Unsurprisingly the striker has revealed his delight at the deal, which allows him to settle and focus on his performances.

“It’s difficult to find a good fit in your career - It does feel like home. It helps being successful and winning games but I have really felt settled here. The lads made me feel welcome from day one and I feel a really good part of it now,” said Martin.

“That’s a big key for me and I think for all the lads to commit their futures. The environment we have built here, the staff and the players together, means there is a good spirit around the place and a real feel-good factor.”

Derby will now be fully focused on the derby clash against Nottingham Forest this weekend, as they look to halt their rivals’ great start to the Championship season.

Forest have rocketed to the top of the division but Martin is well placed and in good form to break a defence, which has proved difficult to get the better of so far this season.

Here’s what Derby fans have made of the news via Twitter.
