Any hopes Tottenham Hotspur had of signing talented free agent Jonas have passed them by, after Benfica confirmed they have signed the forward.
As we reported earlier today, Jonas had been due for a medical at the Portuguese champions with a view to sealing a move.
The former Brazilian international had negotiated a release from his contract with Valencia on transfer deadline day after their signing of Alvaro Negredo on loan pushed him down the pecking order.
A former strike partner of Roberto Soldado, Jonas had been linked to Tottenham Hotspur by several sources, with The Metro reporting incorrectly only 24 hours ago that he had rejected Benfica.
The Primeira Liga side announced on their website this afternoon: "The Brazilian striker Jonas, signed with Sport Lisboa e Benfica, for the next two seasons."
