Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois committed his long-term future to the club on Thursday by signing a new five-year deal.
The Belgium international’s original contract with the Blues was due to run out in the summer of 2016, but now he will remain at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2019.
Courtois is considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and is clearly Mourinho’s first choice for this season.
The 22-year-old joined the Premier League giants from Belgian club KRC Genk in the summer of 2011, but was immediately loaned out to Atletico Madrid.
The youngster played for the Spanish club for the following three seasons, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup, while also reaching the final of the Champions League in May.
Courtois featured for Belgium at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in the summer and was one of their key players in their progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Chelsea fans have been reacting to the news of Courtois’s long-term commitment on social networking site Twitter. Below is a selection of their tweets.
