Newcastle owner Mike Ashley finally speaks out - but what does he say?

The Sports Direct and Newcastle United owner uttered the equivalent to a 'no comment' when prompted by reporters at his company's AGM.

Newcastle fans' frustration with owner Mike Ashley is unlikely to waver this morning.

Far from it, supporters of the Magpies will likely be even more infuriated with Ashley than ever before after his performance at Sports Direct's recent Annual General Meeting.

The sports wear firm, also owned by Ashley, held their AGM last night, where Ashley was supposedly put in front of shareholders to ask questions.

The answers he gave, however, simply left more questions.

According to the Daily Mirror, an aide has confirmed that Sports Direct are making £3.4 million a year off Newcastle's retail arm.

In Ashley's own words, though, the picture was less clear. Indeed, after years of waiting, Magpies fans will have to wait a little longer after their club's owner uttered a statement equivalent to a 'no comment.'

“Other than to say than it’s been beneficial to Sports Direct and therefore its shareholders, I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment," he said.

And when pushed further on the matter, the 50-year-old simply replied: “I think I summed it all up in my previous statement."

It looks as though supporters will have to put up with more and more of Ashley's ways, then, whether they like it or not.
