Tom Cleverley has been pictured training with Aston Villa for the first time, ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.
A hectic transfer deadline saga saw the Manchester United-owned midfielder complete a season-long loan move to the midlands almost 17 hours after the window closed, with a potential switch to Everton collapsing at the last minute.
A highly-regard prospect coming up through the Old Trafford ranks, Cleverley has made 79 appearances for United since his first-team debut in August 2011, but a lacklustre 2013-14 campaign has since his once-promising reputation take a serious hit.
Also falling out of Roy Hodgson’s plans with the national team, the 25-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements under new United boss Louis van Gaal, but will now have the chance to revitalise his career in Paul Lambert’s side.
A place in the starting lineup is no guarantee, however, thanks to the presence of fellow summer arrival Carlos Sanchez, Ashley Westwood and now-England international Fabian Delph, with Cleverley facing a battle to make the XI for the weekend's fixture.
