Tranmere Rovers look set to benefit from an injection of pace in their team, after it was reported that West Ham midfielder Matthias Fanimo – the unofficial fastest man in the Premier League – could be heading to Prenton Park on loan.
The 20-year-old made national headlines earlier this year, after a fitness test undertaken by those behind the scenes at the Hammers academy setup revealed the player was faster over a certain distance than many of the games’ top players.
Using a high-tech GPS tracking system, the Irons staff compared the readings with those garnered from the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Aaron Lennon among others over the years.
And it was the Hammers youngster Fanimo that came out on top, with a reading of 9.8 that was only matched by Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia.
The midfielder was, meanwhile, some 0.2 quicker than Bale, 0.4 faster than Lennon and a whole 0.5 ahead of CR7 himself according to the statistics.
But despite garnering attention for his speedster ways, Fanimo has found his first team opportunities at Upton Park to be limited.
Keen to forge a future at the club, the 20-year-old will now head to Tranmere where he will look to inspire the SuperWhites to League Two promotion.
Fanimo has represented England at under-16, under-17 and under-18 level and has played for West Ham United in three cup fixtures.
Impress away from Upton Park and he could have a bright future with the first-team just yet.
Here’s Fanimo in action for the England under-17 side. Should West Ham let him go out on loan?
