Benjamin Stambouli has had to stop himself from acting like a child, due to his excitement of signing for Tottenham Hotspur.
The French defensive midfielder completed a move to Spurs over the summer transfer window and it is a switch he appears to be very happy with - as he says that he has had to try very hard to curb his anticipation of playing for the club.
“I have a lot of energy and I have to be focused on my work to play well and not to be too excited like a child!” the 24-year-old said to Spurs' official website.
“I’m very happy. The training has been hard and we’ve worked a lot with a lot of intensity. It’s been good for my preparation to play for Spurs.
“I have to continue to work hard to be ready and to be at the same level as the rest of the team.”
Stambouli was a rather low profile addition to White Hart Lane, but the feeling is that he could be an astute purchase.
All observers of French football have commented on the ability that Stambouli showed during his time with Montpellier and feel that he has what it takes to make it in the Premier League.
A robust tackler, who also has great technical ability, Stambouli should fit right in at the Lilywhites and he has already drawn comparisons with a former Tottenham target.
Spurs were linked with Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin for much of the summer, but they managed to pick up Stambouli for £20 million cheaper than the Saints were asking for their midfielder and it could prove to be a bargain.
Stambouli will be hoping that he won't have to wait too much longer to make his first appearance for his new club and it could come against Sunderland this weekend.
Mauricio Pochettino's men take on the Black Cats on Saturday and they will be hoping to build upon the six points which they have already collected this season.
