Tottenham latest: club sale reports denied, captain decision soon

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday evening.

Tottenham have denied reports that owner Joe Lewis has put the club up for sale.

A report appeared in this morning's Daily Mirror suggested that the club was up for sale for £1 Billion following a setback in the club's attempts to build a new stadium.

However, a statement on the club's website, read: "Contrary to recent press speculation, neither the Club, nor its majority shareholder, are in any takeover discussions and the focus of the club is fully on delivering the new stadium project."

Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino has said he will appoint a new club captain on Monday after the departure of Michael Dawson during the last transfer window.

Younes Kaboul was worn the captain's armband in the club's opening game of the season, whilst Hugo Lloris wore the armband in a Europa League game.

He's quoted by TalkSport, saying: "On Monday it will be communicated who the new captain is.

"When all of the players are back from the international break and international games – we will talk to the players and then communicate to you, Monday is the day."

New signing Benjamin Stambouli has been settling into life at the club after signing from Montpellier, and has told the club's website about the intensity of training at the club.

He said: "The training has been hard and we’ve worked a lot with a lot of intensity. It’s been good for my preparation to play for Spurs.

“I have to continue to work hard to be ready and to be at the same level as the rest of the team.”
