London high-flyers - swap boardroom for sleeping bag for youth homelessness

CEO takes part in a Sleep Out

On Monday 13th October 2014, the youth homeless charity Depaul UK invite London’s high flyers to give up their bed for one night and raise much-needed funds to support homeless people by taking part in London’s first CEO Sleepout at Wembley Stadium.

The number of homeless people in London has increased at an alarming rate, with almost 6,500 reported to have slept rough in 2013.

In response, Depaul UK are calling for companies to nominate their CEO and senior management to abandon the boardroom for a sleeping bag and sleep pitch side and help raise £100,000 for the homeless.

This ground-breaking event is being held by Depaul in partnership with two other charities: CEO Sleep Out UK and the Cardinal Hume Centre. All three charities are committed to fighting homelessness and other forms of poverty across the UK, providing essential and life-changing support to homeless people in London

Depaul UK’s chief executive, Martin Houghton-Brown, said: “Sleeping pitch side at Wembley will be a unique way to come together and make a difference, getting business leaders away from their meetings and spreadsheets to raise money and awareness for homelessness.”

The Cardinal Hume Centre’s CEO, Cathy Corcoran, added: “Giving up one night of comfort does not compare to the hard reality for those who experience homelessness on a nightly basis, but this event will show that people do care. We all know that homelessness and poverty should not exist in the modern world.”

CEO Sleepout invites Senior Managers from every industry or profession to brave the cold and take part in what will be a challenging but unique ‘night out’. Some of the UK's largest companies have already committed their support for the event, including Aviva, Accenture, EE, Barclays and PWC.

Film of CEO experiencing homelessness on London’s streets

Accenture Managing Director Pavan Sethi recently swapped his sharp suit for tattered clothes to experience what it is like to be homeless on the streets of London and help the youth homeless charity Depaul UK raise awareness of the issue. To view a film of Pavan’s experience follow this link:
