Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid will hold a public press conference warning potential suitors off Cristiano Ronaldo later this week, according to the Independent and London Evening Standard.

The former Manchester United star has been linked with a return to the club, while Chelsea have also been mentioned in the above reports.

However, Ronaldo is said to simply want higher wages - something Madrid will likely give him.

A Spanish insider is reported to have said: “This is all about money. Cristiano considers himself to be one of the world’s greatest players and doesn’t want to be paid less than anyone else, no matter who they play for.

“But Madrid are in no mood to let him go and will almost certainly end up giving him whatever he wants. He’s too important for them to let go.”

Ed Woodward

Meanwhile, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward says the club's budgets are 'assuming' a third-place finish in the Premier League.

"We assume third [place] in our budgets,” Woodward told reporters.

"The 2013/14 season was a very challenging and disappointing one. But under Louis [van Gaal] there is a real feeling at the training ground that we are at the start of something special."

Revenue Loss

Nevertheless, Manchester United are predicting a loss in revenue for the next financial year, due to a lack of Champions League football.

The club posted record revenues this time around but are predicting a decrease of up to £48 million in income next year.

United host Queens Park Rangers in their next Premier League clash on Sunday.
