Chelsea's season has started well so far, with wins over Burnley, Leicester City and Everton handing the Blues top spot at this early stage of the season. Jose Mourinho brought in the likes of Filipe Luis, Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Didier Drogba and Loic Remy in a bid to reclaim the Premier League title - and it's working at this stage.
Whilst many players left the club permanently this summer, including David Luiz, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o, the club have recently become known for collecting young players before loaning them out to other clubs for first-team experience.
Currently, Chelsea have 26 players out on loan, many of them burgeoning youngsters, including Matej Delac, Tomas Kalas, Kenneth Omeruo, Marco van Ginkel, Thorgan Hazard, Lucas Piazon and Patrick Bamford. The policy has received some criticism, but it's clear that Chelsea have one eye on the future of the playing staff at the club.
Now, reports suggest that Chelsea are again looking to the coming years by targeting an 11-year-old!
According to Catalan newspaper SPORT, Chelsea offered the family of Barcelona youngster Xavi Simons a deal to move to West London having impressed in Barca's famed La Masia setup. The Dutch youngster had been offered the chance to swap Catalunya for Stamford Bridge, but has so far told the Blues that he isn't interested in leaving Spain.
Chelsea are believed to be persistent though and could yet return for Simons, but his father Regillio - a former professional footballer himself in the Netherlands - has held talks with with Barcelona over an agreement to keep Xavi at La Masia rather than to move on.
