Tottenham Hotspur’s Vlad Chiriches: We will win Premier League clash against Sunderland

Vlad Chiriches is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will pick up all three points from their Premier League match against Sunderland on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur’s perfect start to the 2014-15 season ended at the end of last month when they went down 3-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League at White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were disappointing in their performance against the Reds at home and did not deserve to get anything from the game.

Prior to that defeat, Spurs had won all four of their competitive matches – two in the league and two in the Europa League qualifiers.

The performance and loss to Liverpool have raised some concerns about Tottenham’s credentials to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.

After all, the North London club’s victories had come against West Ham United, AEL Limassol and Queens Park Rangers – teams they are expected to beat.

Tottenham will return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Sunderland, and defender Vlad Chiriches understands the need for them to get back to winning ways at the Stadium of Light.

‘We need to get back on track after Liverpool and I think we can do it’, the Romania international centre-back told Spurs’ official website.

‘It will be tough, it usually is away from home, but I hope we will be better and win this game’, added the 24-year-old, who joined Tottenham from Steaua Bucharest for a reported transfer fee of £8.5 million in August 2013. ‘I certainly believe we have the quality to win it’.

Last season Tottenham did the double over Sunderland that included a comprehensive 5-1 victory at White Hart Lane.

It will be far from easy for Spurs to win on Saturday, though, as Gus Poyet’s men have made a good start to their 2014-15 campaign.

Sunderland drew 2-2 with West Bromwich Albion away from home and then held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light, before easing past Birmingham City 3-0 at St Andrew’s in the second round of the League Cup.

Like Tottenham, Sunderland also suffered a defeat in their last league fixture – a 1-0 loss to QPR at Loftus Road – and will be determined to return to winning ways on Saturday.
