Report: Roma already lining up Santon to replace Cole

As suggestions that Ashley Cole is unhappy at Roma grow in volume, Newcastle United defender Davide Santon is being touted as his replacement.

Ashley Cole's Serie A experiment could be headed for an early ending and Roma are reportedly looking to Davide Santon instead.

Cole made the move to Roma as a free agent in the summer when his Chelsea deal expired, but La Repubblica claims that he is already struggling to fit in at his new club.

Roma won their season opener against Fiorentina 2-0 win Cole in the side, but the suggestion is that the ex-England international is not happy off the pitch.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Cole isn't ready to respect Rudi Garcia's methods and Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini swooped for José Holebas as a result.

The paper believes that Roma are also looking at Newcastle man Santon, who is struggling with injury problems but is well respected in Serie A having developed at Inter.

Santon has the same agent as Cole, Claudio Vigorelli, which may make a switch quicker and easier and Santon is believed to be open to the idea of returning to his homeland.

Cole may end up moving to the USA after all come January and is said to be wanted by Orlando City and Toronto FC.
