Liverpool midfielder Raheem Sterling has thanked England fans for their support during the 2-0 win against Switzerland last night.
The travelling fans last nightneed support like this going forward!— Raheem Sterling (@sterling31) September 9, 2014
England were well supported on a difficult night away from home as they got their European qualifying campaign off to a winning start.
England’s support sung from the start of the game all the way through to the very end, with European football expert Jan Aage Fjortoft at one point suggesting there’s nothing like England fans signing ‘God Save the Queen’ in the middle of a game.
Always great when English fans singing the NationalAnthem during games— Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) September 8, 2014
Sterling’s performance at the top of a midfield diamond gave the England support plenty to get excited about.
It’s a role he played on several occasions for Liverpool last season as well as at the World Cup with England.
On paper the trip to Switzerland looks like the most difficult fixture in the group for England as attention now returns to the Premier League this weekend, with Sterling up against England teammate Fabian Delph at Anfield.
