The transfer of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid to Manchester United and the loan move of Javier Hernandez in the opposite direction this summer maintained the regular business carried out between the two clubs.
While United spent a club-record £59.7million on the Argentine international, Real took the Mexican sharp-shooter on an initial loan move, leaving many to argue that it was the La Liga club who carried out the savvier business.
That said, it has been widely reported that many within the Spanish club wanted Di Maria to stay, and even for such a sizeable fee, United could ultimately have the last laugh if the 26-year-old does in England what he regularly did in Spain.
But aside from signing one of the best players in world football, what the arrival of Di Maria also did was begin to redress the balance.
After all, in recent times Real have signed a whole host of players from United and finally they were bringing one in the opposite direction.
A tweet from Football Funnys has brought together players who have recently swapped one club for the other, with Di Maria the only player heading directly from Madrid to Manchester.
Others included in the montage are Ruud van Nistelrooy, Gabriel Heinze, Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Chicharito and Michael Owen – who moved to United as a free agent after his Newcastle contract came to an end.
With rumours linking Ronaldo with a spectacular return to Old Trafford in the future, could they be starting a new trend of signing players from Real, rather than sending them to the Spanish capital?
