Manchester United morning news: Mata exit latest; four debuts on Sunday

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United play-maker Juan Mata is unhappy and wants to leave Old Trafford in January according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

Sport Witness has picked up on claims from the publication that the former club-record signing is a target for both Valencia and Atletico Madrid; and while it may seem unlikely given that Mata only arrived at United last January, the simple fact is things have changed considerably since then.

With the arrival of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, and the presence of Adnan Januzaj and – to a lesser extent – James Wilson, Louis van Gaal has a lot of attack-minded players and very few positions for them.

As a result it seems Mata has been labelled the most likely to depart in the media, although his recent goal-scoring form for the club means we should probably take the latest reports with a pinch of salt, especially after United waved goodbye to another play-maker – Shinji Kagawa – in the summer.

In other news, the Daily Star reports that United are set to give four players their debuts on Sunday.

Van Gaal’s side host Queens Park Rangers, and the report claims Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Falcao could all be set for their first competitive United action.

That is quite a United side, but fans may want to temper their expectations as it is likely to take time for their new stars to bed in.
