Sunderland player Santiago Vergini has revealed what the Black Cats’ new loan signing Ricky Alvarez will bring to the club.
In an interview with Sunderland’s official website, Vergini said, “Ricky is a player that I know very well from playing in the youth teams at Velez Sarsfield.
“He is technically very good, he has great physical potential and he can get up and down the field so I believe he will bring a lot to the team.”
Alvarez was one of two loan signings to arrive at the Stadium of Light on transfer deadline day, with Liverpool’s Sebastian Coates joining the Inter Milan midfielder in Gus Poyet’s squad; and both are in line to make their debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Vergini’s praise for his new teammate suggests Sunderland fans could be in for a treat if Alvarez can hit the ground running.
“I imagine that he is a player that the fans will really take to,” Vergini added, “and I think that he really is capable of doing great things.”
Only time will tell, but it is clear Poyet has brought in a man who has the potential to give Sunderland’s supporters plenty to shout about for the rest of the campaign.
