Manchester United's Antonio Valencia has reportedly closed his Twitter account after criticism from fans in his homeland.
The winger had the account handle @7AntoV - which could no longer be found on the site as of yesterday.
Ecuadorian news outlet El Universo report that Valencia decided to de-activate the account after 'attacks' from fans via the network.
South American football journalist and BBC correspondent Juan Arango also reported the situation.
Valencia had decided not to feature in the game, citing exhaustion, with Manchester United's official website reporting on Saturday:
"Valencia asked not to meet up for the international matches because he was still recovering from the physical and mental exertions of the World Cup and the early part of the Premier League season. It was felt a short break would enable the 29-year-old to get back to 100 per cent fitness and the request was accepted."
The United winger was sent off as Ecuador crashed out in the group stages at the World Cup and his country face Brazil later today (Tuesday) who are searching for their own redemption as they continue rebuilding after their humiliating 7-1 semi-final exit.
