As signings go, George Thorne's transfer to Derby County may be the unluckiest of the summer.
After clinching a switch from West Brom in early July, the midfielder went down with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
While possible he could yet feature late in the season, Thorne is making no promises, and setting no targets, publicly at least.
He told Derby's website: “Everyone knows you can’t rush these injuries and I’ll be back when I am ready and it feels right,” he said.
“That may be sooner, but it could be later – it really depends how things pan out.
“I've had a successful operation and a good few weeks of rehabilitation but I have to take it each day and week as it comes."
The 21-year-old had cost the Rams £2 million, but with a contract until 2018, he is clearly focusing on being a success in the long-term, rather than risking that to focus on the immediate future.
