Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has taken to Twitter following the announcement that he has won the Gunners’ Player of the Month award for August.
The £16million signing from Southampton has been outstanding since he arrived at the Emirates Stadium and he has also been called up to the England squad.
While many expected Chambers to act as back-up right-back to Mathieu Debuchy, instead the teenager has played in the heart of Arsenal’s defence, partnering both Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker and not looking out of place alongside either.
After winning the award, Chambers wrote the following on his official Twitter account: “Thank you to everyone who voted me Player of the Month, great support.”
Few would disagree with Chambers’ award, as he has outshone his more illustrious summer arrivals and looked like being the bargain of many a transfer window.
Now the trick is to maintain his form for an entire season, with the challenges coming thick and fast in what Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will hope is his most successful season in a long time.
