Kieran Richardson insists that Aston Villa have no fear before heading to Anfield to face Liverpool at the weekend.
Paul Lambert's side have started the season in fine form, remaining unbeaten for their first three games, and Richardson says that they are full of confidence for what looks a tough test against the Reds.
Liverpool are hoping to consolidate a top-four spot and have built momentum before the international break with a fine 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, but Richardson has revealed Villa will travel to Merseyside determined to pull off an upset.
“We are full of confidence at the moment and playing well," he said. "We look solid so I don’t see why we can’t go there and cause an upset.
“We have the players to do that. Not everyone expects us to win so there is no pressure and if we can get a result it would be a great thing.”
Villa can also take confidence in the fact that they have proven somewhat of a bogey-side for the Reds.
Two years ago the Midlands side put in one of their best performances in recent memory at the Merseyside ground - beating Liverpool 3-1 in a highly accomplished display.
They backed up that showing last season, too, by earning a hard-fought point and they will be hoping for similar success this time around.
If Villa can pick up anything they will remain near the top of the table and confidence will only grow.
Lambert's side were touted as one of the favourites for relegation this campaign, but they have defied expectations so far this season and Richardson is already aiming for a finish in the upper echelons of the Premier League, as a result.
"Hopefully we can stay a solid unit and stay in the top half of the table," he said.
