Wales kicked off their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Andorra away from home on Tuesday.
The hosts took a shock lead as early as the sixth minute when Ildefons Lima scored from the penalty spot. It was the European minnows’ first competitive goal since 2010 and flared up hopes of their first victory in a competitive match since October 2004.
However, it was not to be for Andorra as Wales launched a comeback to win the Group B clash 2-1 and pick up all three points.
Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale was the star of the show for the Dragons, as he scored both the goals.
The Real Madrid star netted the equaliser on 22 minutes with a header and curled in a sensational free kick with nine minutes of normal time remaining.
It was not the most comprehensive of performances for Wales, but they will be just pleased to have survived a scare and won at the Estadi Nacional in Andorra la Vella.
Following the match, Bale took to social networking site Twitter to express his delight, and so did Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.
Pleased we came away with the 3 points, great effort from the boys, was a tough game in difficult conditions!— Gareth Bale (@GarethBale11) September 9, 2014
