Arsenal morning news: Welbeck reaction, Podolski's big fear

A round up of news stories this morning about Arsenal.

Danny Welbeck has praised the way England played in a 2-0 win against Switzerland.

Arsenal’s new £16 million signing bagged both goals during the game and was delighted after the final whistle.

“We created a number of chances in the first half where the final pass was missing. But once we got the goal we were in control. It was a good team performance overall,” said Welbeck.

His new Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere has called for him to be given an extended run in the attack of the side.

Wilshere, who played at the base of a midfield diamond, argues Welbeck can be prolific in the centre forward role.

“If he keeps playing like that, then why [can't he carry on there]. He'll score goals and the last few years, he's been playing on the wing, and I know what he can do up top and he knows what he can do, he's shown that tonight,” he told Sky Sports News.

Lukas Podolski has revealed that he doesn’t know if he still has the trust of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Podolski has struggled to feature so far this season and has seen his place come under threat from the arrival of Danny Welbeck.

“When I am in top shape, I am a perfect fit for the Arsenal team. And I see myself in the first XI then, that’s what I work towards. I am not sure, I hope that that’s the case,” said the German.
