A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…
The transfer window may have closed but that has not stopped the rumours, with both Kevin Strootman and Arturo Vidal continuing to be linked with a move to Manchester United, this time in January.
After a few days of speculation surrounding the Dutch international, Italian newspaper Tuttosport reports that United have not given up on Vidal and will try again in January.
The Chilean was heavily tipped to swap Juventus for United in the summer, but with that move failing to materialise, it could well be that particular ship has sailed. If United do spend big on a midfielder in the winter, surely Louis van Gaal will go for a man he knows well from his time as the Netherlands coach in the form of Strootman.
In other news, United defender Phil Jones has defended van Gaal’s much maligned 3-5-2 formation.
The club are yet to win a competitive match this season, but Jones told the Manchester Evening News, “I personally enjoy the system.
“When everyone is working well together and knows what they should be doing on the pitch then it certainly works and is very difficult for teams to play against.”
So in short, it appears the England international is saying the players simply need time to get used to van Gaal’s methods; something the Dutchman implied himself when he first took the job.
