Hull City midfielder Tom Huddlestone has backed England to get a ‘positive result’ from their Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland tonight.
The Three Lions are currently in action at St Jakob-Park in Basel, where they are taking on the Swiss in their opening Group E game.
Tough game for England tonight, but fully capable of getting a positive result— Tom Huddlestone (@Huddz8) September 8, 2014
England headed into tonight’s contest on the back of a 1-0 victory over Norway at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the second half, but the hosts’ performance was strongly criticised.
It was indeed an insipid display from the 1966 World Cup winners, but England have made a better start to the game against Switzerland and have looked very competent.
The first half in Basel has finished goalless, but England have shown a sign or two that they can pick up all three points tonight.
Huddlestone may be watching the match from afar, but he will probably be wishing that he were playing in it.
The former Tottenham Hotspur star, who joined Hull in the summer of 2013, has featured four times for England, but his last appearance for the Three Lions came back in 2012.
