Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho was all smiles with £50 million Barcelona superstar Neymar following Brazil’s weekend win against Colombia.
It was the Barcelona midfielder who bagged the only goal of the game as the Brazilian’s look to make up for the heartbreak of a disappointing World Cup campaign, which saw them thoroughly thrashed at the hands of eventual winners Germany.
Coutinho was left out of that squad but with Luiz Felipe Scolari gone, the Liverpool midfielder is back on the international scene.
He may have only been given 20 minutes of game time, replacing Oscar, against Colombia but it’s a step in the right direction for the player Brendan Rodgers once described as ‘the brain’ of this Liverpool team.
Coutinho has gone from strength to strength since he joined Liverpool from Inter Milan in a deal worth £10 million. He’s a key feature of the current first team and someone who will be integral to any success the side has in the near future.
If he can one day be considered in the same bracket as Neymar for consistency and ability, Liverpool will be in an even stronger position than they already are.
