We’re now over halfway through the international break and focus will soon return to the Premier League fixtures this weekend.
There is plenty to chat about as it’ll be the first chance for the fans to see late summer signings step out for their new sides as clubs strap themselves in for an important first half of the season.
We’ve taken a look back at the stories making the headlines on this day last year.
‘Ozil explains Arsenal decision’
Mesut Ozil explained how Arsene Wenger convinced him to make a move to Arsenal.
The German arrived at the Emirates as a deadline day signing in a £42.5 million deal from Real Madrid.
“I thought: 'What he (Wenger) is telling me is what I have missed at Real: transparency, trust, respect. He told me exactly how he sees me [as a player], how he wants to use me, what he expects from me and what he hopes I will contribute,” said Ozil.
‘Coentrao’s stab at United’
Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao showed no regrets over a failed move to Manchester United.
The Portuguese defender was linked with coming in as a new left-back at Old Trafford under David Moyes.
“There was the possibility of joining Manchester United, but I stayed at Real Madrid, and that’s what matters. It would have been bad if I had to stay despite having the chance to move to a better club, but that didn’t happen as I already am at the best club in the world,” he told O Jogo.
‘Holtby welcomes the competition’
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby said he welcomed the competition provided by the club’s summer signings.
Several midfielders arrived in a £100 million spending spree last summer, which put the January 2013 signing under pressure.
“I am very pleased to be in this squad. You need a big squad if you want to challenge for trophies and be strong in every competition,” said the German.
