'I didn't think twice' - Senderos buzzing after Villa Park move

Philippe Senderos has had nothing but good words to say about his move to Aston Villa.

Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos has spoken in glowing terms about his move to Aston Villa.

The Swiss defender has hit the ground running at Villa Park and has suggested that he had no hesitation in returning to the Premier League to link up with Paul Lambert’s side.

“I had a good chat with the gaffer in person and also over the phone. He told me all about Villa and what he expected from me and from the players,” he told the club’s website.

“Villa is a massive club. I have always liked playing here at Villa Park. I think the fans are great too and the pitch is probably one of the best in the Premier League.”

The stats show that Senderos has certainly been having a big impact in Villa’s backline, competitive in a number of areas and that’s played a big part in helping to ensure the club have got off to a good start in the league this season.

Villa currently have the joint best defence in the Premier League, which has conceded just a single goal.

Where he’s proving to be effective in terms of the stats is the way he reads the game.

His competitive number of outfield blocks this season is encouraging because it shows he’s reading the game well and getting into good basic positions, which make it difficult for the opposition to fire shots at Brad Guzan.

That’s backed up with his interception stats which put him in the same bracket this season as several other supposedly higher quality defenders.

“That's where every player wants to play. It was always a dream to come and play in the Premier League again and as soon as I had an opportunity like Villa to come back I didn't think twice.”

The combination of Ron Vlaar and Senderos in the middle of the back four is a combination of quality and experience that many Premier League teams would love to have.

Villa’s midfield and attack is packed with talent but where the side have previously been let down is defensively and that’s where Senderos can step in and consistently make a difference.
