Watford player Ikechi Anya has expressed his delight after scoring against Germany’s Manuel Neuer on Sunday evening, praising his Scotland teammates for a fantastic performance against the world champions.
Gordon Strachan’s side ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat after a brace form Thomas Muller gave Germany the victory. But Scotland have much to be proud of, and for a time it looked as though his side would go on to secure a famous victory.
Despite that not happening, the players can take heart from their showing, and the Watford star has taken to Twitter to say just that.
“So proud of my team,” he wrote. “We showed the world last night under the Gaffa’s guidance we are a match for anyone.”
And what of the 66th-minute goal he scored at Signal Iduna Park?
“Lastly I scored past Manuel Neuer,” he wrote. “I can’t even do that on FIFA.”
Soon the 26-year-old heads back to domestic matters when Watford face Championship rivals Charlton Athletic at the Valley next weekend. But you can be sure Scotland’s upcoming opponents will be keeping a close eye on him from now on.
