Luis Suarez may have departed Liverpool under a cloud with questions raised on his attitude and character, but his new Barcelona teammate Ivan Rakitic claims that the striker is ‘gentle and quiet’.
The Uruguay international caused a huge uproad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil when he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder during a match.
The former Ajax star was immediately given a four-month ban from all footballing activities and suspended for nine international matches.
Soon after it was announced that Suarez has been sold by Liverpool to Barcelona for a reported transfer fee of £75 million.
Suarez later publicly apologised for the incident and vowed never to repeat those actions - something he seems to have told his new Barcelona teammates privately as well, as revealed by Rakitic.
‘Suarez is very calm, gentle and quiet’, the 26-year-old Croatia international midfielder told Sport, as reported by Football Espana.
‘He’s a nice person and has our full support. He’s told us that what happened at the World Cup won’t happen again. He’s apologised and vowed it won’t happen’.
Some will still have doubts on Suarez – and can you really blame them? – but what cannot be argued against is how much of a great addition he is to the Barcelona team.
Last season the Blaugrana failed to win a single major trophy, but this time the Catalan giants are in a great position to clinch more than one title.
