Bungie’s new game is the most pre-ordered in history say the developers.
The wait is finally over for Destiny as it officially goes on sale for the first time - starting at 12.01 a.m., on Tuesday in New Zealand, With retail versions rolling out across the world, servers are now live with digital and retail pre-orders still available to those waiting for the clock to tick down to midnight.
Digital orders made through PlayStation or Xbox online stores will have to wait a few hours before they can be played with PlayStation users given the option to pre-load the game now to cut back on waiting time.
An announcement from publishers Activision claims Destiny has become "the most pre-ordered new video game IP in history". This comes after attracting an impressive 4.6 million players to the recent Destiny open beta demo.
"Destiny is the game we've always wanted to make," said Bungie president Harold Ryan.
"We've dreamt of this universe for years, so we couldn't be more thrilled to swing open the doors and let fans shape this experience as they tell their unique stories in the game.
"For us, the next generation of games is all about allowing players to collide and interact with each other as they take on epic, action-packed adventures all their own."
During Destiny launch week, gamers in the US can take advantage of a temporary Microsoft deal where you can get an Xbox One with any free game of your choice.
