The brother of Liverpool star Mario Balotelli has been racially abused while playing in a lower league Italian match.

Enock Balotelli, the brother of Mario, has been the victim of racist insults while playing for Italian amateur team Vallecamonica.

The shameful incident took place during a game in the Lombardy region's Eccellenza league, effectively the sixth division of Italian football.

Balotelli was playing for Vallecamonica against Darfo Boario when fans began to hurl abuse and Enock has revealed that the insults were racially motivated.

"Then they made monkey noises and also comments about Mario," Enock explained.

"I can't understand their rage, but people who behave like that don't deserve me taking the time to try and understand.

"At the start of the game I was worried because they were annoying me but I did nothing.

"Some of the people who were insulting me were the same people who once greeted me outside the stadium. I haven't been treated like this for some time, but I don't want to waste time responding."

Enock is a talented player who has represented a number of sides in Italy's lower leagues and also played for the Padania team - a representative side for the north of Italy who play in non-FIFA competitions.

Mario Balotelli was often targeted for racist chants during his time in Italy and it is widely accepted that the country is lagging behind in the battle against racism in football.
