€30m summer United target '100 per cent satisfied' with his decision

Toni Kroos, Germany National Football Team

Toni Kroos has been speaking about joining Real Madrid this summer from Bayern Munich.

Toni Kroos was one of the summer's most wanted men in world football - even before he helped lead Germany to World Cup glory.

The ex-Bayern Munich star had just one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena - so Bayern were slightly tied regarding their bargaining power on the talented midfield maestro.

The list of clubs reportedly keen on his signature was long - with Premier League teams on that list. Manchester United were heavily linked for most of the summer, while Chelsea were also said to be keeping tabs on the player.

Manchester United were said to be particularly keen - especially when David Moyes was in charge. But surprisingly, when Louis van Gaal arrived the interest appeared to die down. That was despite the new Manchester United boss being the man who broke him in at Bayern Munich.

But in the end it was Real Madrid who made him a Galactico. They agreed a reported fee in the region of €30 million for the talisman this summer, winning the race for his signature.

And Kroos, back in Germany for international duty, has opened up about the decision to head to Spain.

He told reporters this weekend:

“I’ve done everything right – I’m 100 per cent satisfied. In a worldwide standing, Real Madrid are a small step ahead of Bayern Munich. If I just think about my presentation at the Bernabeu, there were 20,000 fans there even though I had never played a single second for Real. Something like that is inconceivable in Germany. In Spain, the football fans are more emotional about the game.”

It is interesting to wonder if he could have been saying the same thing about Manchester United in a parallel universe.
