United morning news: £25m January bid lined up; defender shocked by Welbeck move

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks to bring Kevin Strootman to Old Trafford in January.

The Telegraph reports that United will be able to spend more money in the next transfer window and that the Roma midfielder is a principle target.

The report claims discussions have taken place regarding a possible £25million move.

Those claims come within a bigger piece about United aiming to buy a world-class star every summer for the next decade. They certainly got off on the right foot this year, bringing in Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid for a club-record fee.

But United fans may wonder if that is the way they want their side to go if the development of youth is consigned to the past.

In other news, Rio Ferdinand has told the Sun that he cannot believe United sold Danny Welbeck this summer.

He is shocked that the club sanctioned the move of the young forward at all, but even more so considering he headed to Arsenal.
