Chelsea look to have made a very shrewd acquisition with the arrival of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid this summer. The Spanish international cost Chelsea around about £32 million to bring him from La Liga to the Premier League and it has so far been a resounding success.
He has shown off his beastly steel in front of goal already in London, scoring four goals in three games as Chelsea set the early pace in the Premier League title hunt.
But if there was one concern over Costa it would be his injury record, especially regarding his hamstring problems.
Costa suffered toward the end of last season with the issue and was struggling with it in the lead up to his man-of-the-match display against Everton. Now he has pulled out of the Spanish squad for the upcoming qualifying match with Macedonia this week.
He exacerbated the problem during a 1-0 friendly defeat against France and has had to pull out of the squad as a result.
His absence has been a big talking point in Spain as so far, he has failed to impress for his adopted national team. But one man backing him is a former city rival at Real Madrid.
Dani Carvajal, who has finally entered the Spanish national team, spoke highly of Costa this week, stating:
“Diego Costa is an alternative to our philosophy and he can adapt perfectly. Any team would want him. Hopefully he recovers soon.”
Those thoughts will be echoed by Chelsea fans up and down the country.
