Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has been speaking about how it feels to play at Anfield, and the honour of wearing the number previously worn by Jamie Carragher.
The player arrived from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, for a fee in the region of £9.75million, and big things are expected of someone who was turning out for Bayern Munich as a teenager.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Can said, “The atmosphere at Anfield is exceptional. Many people around the world know that the stadium has a great atmosphere, and I had heard a lot about it before coming here.
“The fans jumps up and down, they cheer throughout. The way they sing, the scarves, it’s the goose-bumps again.”
Can may only be 20, but he has the innate ability and the confidence to ultimately become a midfield great at Anfield. His arrival was one of the smartest pieces of business Brendan Rodgers pulled off and over time the versatile German should go on to prove his transfer fee was a bargain.
Perhaps Rodgers knew what he had signed when he gave him the number previously worn by Anfield great Jamie Carragher; and Can’s number 23 is one he is clearly very proud of.
“Jamie Carragher is a big name player,” Can said. “I want to become a great Liverpool player too and maybe the number 23 can help with that.”
