Liverpool player Suso has been speaking about his Reds teammate Raheem Sterling.
The 20-year-old Spaniard has seen the England international at close quarters as the two have risen through the ranks at Anfield.
In an interview with the club’s official website, Suso revealed that Sterling’s emergence on the world stage is far from surprising.
“I remember the first year I came when I was at the Academy in the reserve team,” Suso said.
“He was in the under-18s team and he played some really good games. Obviously he was really young at just 16 but you could see he had the quality to be a good player.
“Now he is in the first-team you can see he has improved a lot and he is still improving and every time you see him play he is normally the best player on the pitch.”
While Sterling looks to be heading for hero status at Liverpool, the future seems a little less clear for Suso.
Recent reports have suggested he will be on his way to AC Milan next season, and considering he is in the final year of his current contract at Anfield, that would not be a huge surprise.
That said, the winger has shown he has the talent and the confidence to succeed with Brendan Rodgers’ side, but it remains to be seen how many chances he will be given in the short term.
A number of Liverpool fans will be sad to see him leave if he does head to Italy, but there is still time for him to follow Sterling’s path into a side that can no longer do without the brilliant teenager.
