The agent of Galatasaray centre-back Aurelien Chedjou has revealed that West Ham United were one of five clubs which saw offers rejected for his client on transfer deadline day.

The Hammers were understood to be desperate to bring in a defender before the window closed, but bids for Micah Richards, Matija Nastasic and Michael Ciani were all knocked back over the final week.

Linked to Liverpool last summer, Sunderland were another club named as pursuing the Cameroonian World Cup veteran, but the Turkish outfit rebuffed bids of around £3 million.

However, the club were able to keep hold of star man Winston Reid, despite rumoured interest from Arsenal, and, with his contract set to expire next summer, reports are that new talks over an extension are imminent.

Defender James Tomkins is also relishing working with new signings Alex Song and Morgan Amalfitano, after the pair made it nine arrivals at Upton Park this summer.

‘Alex Song is a massive player who comes with great experience in the Premier League,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘He has gone to Barcelona and trained with the best, so he is only going to help us, I should imagine. We’re all really looking forward to playing alongside him.

‘We played against Morgan last season at West Brom and he caused us a few problems and actually set up their goal as well, so he’ll be an important player for us.’

One player, meanwhile, could be set to spend some time away from the club, with reports claiming that Diego Poyet could be sent out on loan to former club Charlton Athletic or Brentford, having struggled to make his first-team breakthrough with West Ham thus far.
