The England striker has had to pull out of international duty with a thigh injury.
Liverpool and England striker says he is heartbroken to have to pull out of international duty.
The 25-year-old injured his thigh during training and has thus been forced out of the Three Lions squad.
Reports suggest he could be out for up to three weeks and Roy Hodgson now faces a decision as to who will replace Sturridge within the national side.
However, the injury could also force Sturridge out of Liverpool action - but the striker says he wants be 'fighting fit' for his club.
Heartbroken soul right now believe me. Hopefully be back soon fighting fit for LFC. Nothing worse than being injured. My heads gone...— Daniel Sturridge (@D_Sturridge) September 5, 2014
Sturridge played the vast majority of England's friendly win against Norway, with Rickie Lambert only coming on to replace him in the dying minutes of the game.
Liverpool face Aston Villa in their next league game after the international break, though Sturridge looks as though his injury will rule him out of that clash.
Captain Wayne Rooney could now face Switzerland as an out-and-out striker for the Three Lions.
