'Heartbroken' Sturridge hoping not to miss Liverpool games with injury

The England striker has had to pull out of international duty with a thigh injury.

The 25-year-old injured his thigh during training and has thus been forced out of the Three Lions squad.

Reports suggest he could be out for up to three weeks and Roy Hodgson now faces a decision as to who will replace Sturridge within the national side.

However, the injury could also force Sturridge out of Liverpool action - but the striker says he wants be 'fighting fit' for his club.

Sturridge played the vast majority of England's friendly win against Norway, with Rickie Lambert only coming on to replace him in the dying minutes of the game.

The 25-year-old former Chelsea striker has otherwise enjoyed a fine start to the season for the Reds, scoring the winner in their Premier League opener against Southampton.

Liverpool face Aston Villa in their next league game after the international break, though Sturridge looks as though his injury will rule him out of that clash.

Captain Wayne Rooney could now face Switzerland as an out-and-out striker for the Three Lions.
