This summer saw plenty of movement from the Premier League to Serie A, with several well-recognised players taking their talents to Italy.
Micah Richards and Marco van Ginkel similarly made their way to the peninsula on loan moves, Gary Medel departing relegated Cardiff to be a part of Erick Thohir’s rebuilding project at Inter.
Arguably the two highest-profile players to arrive from English shores, however, are former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic and Chelsea outcast Fernando Torres.
The pair have touched down at fierce San Siro rivals Inter and AC Milan respectively, their captures dividing opinion in their new country of residence.
Italian website Tutto Mercato Web have now conducted a poll asking which of 13 players signed by various Serie A clubs is the ‘most convincing’ signing - with Vidic and Torres included.
And somewhat surprisingly, Torres has gotten the nod from participants over Vidic. The Spaniard garnered nearly 17% of the vote to Vidic’s 11.4%.
Torres was a controversial choice to replace the outgoing Mario Balotelli at Milan, seen as a step backwards given his failure to consistently produce during his time at Chelsea.
Vidic, meanwhile, was largely welcomed at Inter. Walter Mazzarri’s defence sorely needed a decorated veteran leader with Walter Samuel leaving, with the Serbian fitting the bill - and seemingly have enough in the tank to still perform.
Yet is seems that there may be more positivity surrounding Torres’ arrival at San Siro than originally thought, given the results of the poll.
Juan Iturbe took first place on the ballot with 22.8% of the vote after joining Roma from Hellas Verona for €22 million, having reportedly interested the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.
The Argentine takes the top spot over second-place Torres, with one-time Arsenal target Alvaro Morata of Juventus squeezing in ahead of fourth-place Vidic.
Only the travails of an entire season will determine which of the new signings by Serie A’s heavyweights was the most astute, but for the time being, where fans’ confidence lies has become slightly clearer.
Having the faith of supporters could do wonders for a player like Torres who is looking to resurrect a stalled career. As for the trio of Iturbe, Morata and Vidic, they’ve been expected to play at a high level - and it will be as fascinating as ever to see which of Serie A’s star signings can live up to their billing.
