Liverpool morning news, more Valdes links, Henderson backs Sterling to keep improving

A selection of the latest stories surrounding Liverpool Football Club this Friday morning.

There are further reports this morning indicating that Liverpool will sign goalkeeper Victor Valdes next month in order to provide competition for Simon Mignolet.

Valdes is a free agent after his move to Monaco fell through following a serious knee injury, but the Spaniard will secure a move to Anfield provided he goes through 'stringent medical tests' according to the Daily Mirror.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has backed Raheem Sterling to keep on improving, and said the 19-year-old can stay grounded.

Henderson is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “He is a very level-headed young lad for a 19-year-old.

“His football brain is not as young as that, though.

“He is really clever in his positioning and he drives with the ball.

“He is outstanding and hopefully he can keep on improving.

“He plays with no fear, which is important, he just wants to get on the ball, run at people and make things happen."

Three Liverpool players were in action on international duty last night, with the most high profile player being Mamadou Sakho, who played the full game in France's 1-0 friendly win over Spain.

Dejan Lovren played for Croatia in their 2-0 win over Cyprus, whilst forward Divock Origi - currently on loan at Lille - played 80 minutes in Belgium's 2-0 win over Australia.
