Chelsea defender Gary Cahill would have given Jose Mourinho the fright of his life when he hit the deck during England’s game against Norway clutching at his ankle.
England boss Roy Hodgson promptly withdrew the centre-back before revealing that the England medical team knew about Cahill’s ankle knock heading into the game.
“He [Cahill] came with knock on the ankle as you know from the Everton-Chelsea game,” said Hodgson.
“He trained yesterday and could have completed the game today but we thought it was prudent to take him off with 10-15 minutes left.”
Cahill has become one of the most important parts of a Chelsea backline, which was the most effective in the Premier League last season.
He’s started the new campaign in great form and it’s important he makes it through the game against Switzerland with no complications as the Blues have a difficult fixture list after the international break; games against Swansea, Schalke and Manchester City.
