On this day: Fabregas says Ozil 'great for Arsenal'; Herrera opens up

Ozil Arsenal 5

On the 4th September 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 4th September 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 4th September 2013…

Ozil is Fab

A year ago today and former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas was singing the praises of Arsenal's newbie Mesut Ozil. The Gunners had signed the German international on transfer deadline day and the then Barcelona midfielder had nothing but praise for the £42.4 million arrival, stating to Spanish radio:

"I was really surprised by Ozil's departure. He seemed to me the second-best player at Madrid, after Cristiano (Ronaldo). He'll be great for Arsenal."

Ozil has since struggled to live up to his billing at The Emirates while Fabregas did much the same at Barcelona. He now gets to face off against Ozil once again, as he joined Arsenal's rivals Chelsea this summer.

Herrera open

Ander Herrera was the subject of one of deadline days more dramatic stories. Three lawyers turned up to discuss his move to Manchester United at the headquarters of Athletic Bilbao - without any party knowing about it.

But the player admitted he could one day become a United player:

"A United offer came and I can only view that as a positive reflection on what I have been doing. 'At no time, despite what anybody reported, did I undergo a medical for United nor did I sign any contract with them. As for the future, you never know what might happen. I've no idea who the three guys who turned up at the league offices are but I can say categorically that they had nothing to do with me or my representative."

A year later and he is a United player, joining for £28.8 million this summer.
